Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from that period of 2023.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
